Postdoctoral Fellow: Rice Field Fisheries



    The Post Doctoral Fellow provides substantive research inputs in the areas of own expertise to the implementation of ongoing projects, especially the USAID-funded Cambodia Rice Field Fisheries Phase II (RFF2) and CGIAR Research Program on Fish Agri-food Systems (FISH CRP), ensuring that the data generated through these projects are high quality and wellorganized in databases. Conduct periodical analysis of data for the purposes of M&E and for the development of scientific publications.

    The post holder will report directly to the Country Director / Project Leader of RFF2 and also work closely with the program leader of Resilient Small Scale Fisheries and other global Scientists based at various WorldFish offices.

    Key Responsibilities
    - Provide technical support to the project teams in designing and implementing field activities in own areas of expertise.
    - Ensure that the data collected through ongoing projects are of publishable standard, wellorganized in databases and are easily accessible by other project team members.
    - Develop capacity of local staff in the data collection, quality, management and analysis
    - Lead peer-reviewed scientific publications (at least two per year) from assigned project activities, and co-author peer reviewed publications as appropriate.
    - Lead and develop in collaboration with Cambodian staff communication outputs appropriate to showcase events, peer reviewed publications, development impacts.
    - Provide substantive technical inputs to preparation of new project proposals.
    - Assist Cambodian staff with writing project documents and reports in English language.
    - Support project team meetings and M&E activities regarding overall program planning and reporting to bilateral donors as well as WorldFish headquarters.

    Skills and Qualifications
    - Ph.D. in fisheries management, fisheries ecology, natural resources economics, or closely related field.
    - Experience in designing, implementing and publishing interdisciplinary research.
    - Proven ability to design and implement novel research activities on diverse aspects of fishery systems.
    - Experience in synthesizing results from disparate studies.
    - Demonstrated research track record as evidenced by publications in the international primary literature.
    - Highly developed skills using common statistics software.
    - Highly developed skills in planning and executing field research in the aquatic environment.
    - Proven ability to work in remote rural locations in tropical environment
    - Good interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity
    - Ability to work with minimal supervision

    Salary and Benefits
    This is an Internationally Recruited Staff (IRS) position with annual salary ranging between USD 42,000 – USD 46,000 per annum.

    Time frame and location
    The position will be based in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. The initial employment contract will be for a 2-years period, with possibility for renewal.
