    Full-time, two-year fixed term position, 37.5 hrs p/w (1.0 EFT)

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for a 2-year fixed term Post-Doctoral Fellowship in ‘Photoactive Metal-Organic Frameworks’ to work under the leadership of Professor Paul E. Kruger and in close collaboration with Prof. Shane Telfer (Massey University). The project, funded by the MacDiarmid Institute (MI), concerns the conversion of light to other useful forms of energy. In this context, we have designed a new class of photoactive materials that will make fundamental advances in energy harvesting. Specifically, these are multicomponent metal-organic frameworks (MMOFs), which we will synthesize to: i) achieve photon upconversion, and; ii) act as novel photocatalysts. Energy and electron transfer phenomena within arrays of chromophores and redox modules can thus be understood and optimised. This ambitious project will draw on MI expertise in synthetic chemistry, materials analysis, spectroscopy and photophysics. Additionally, the successful applicant will work closely with a PhD student on the same project and other students on related projects.

The successful candidate will hold a PhD in either Synthetic Inorganic Chemistry, or Metal-organic Framework Chemistry, (or in a relevant related subject in the field of Inorganic or Materials Chemistry) or will have submitted a PhD thesis in one of these fields prior to taking up the appointment. Relevant experience of metal-organic frameworks and / or photo- physics or chemistry and / or allied spectroscopic techniques will be a distinct advantage.

The successful candidate must be able to take up the position in early 2018 or as soon as possible thereafter. Applications will be considered continuously from the first review date and the University reserves the right to make an appointment prior to the closing date.
