Fixed-term for 36 months
Full time

This exciting and challenging EPSRC-funded project is at the forefront of an emerging multidisciplinary research programme at the interface of the physical and life sciences. It seeks to facilitate a step-change in UK manufacturing through the development of evolvable bio-hybrid products with the inherent capacity to autonomously sense and repair damage over their life course.
To achieve this ambitious aim, the project brings together a team of seven UK Universities, physically located at recognised centres of excellence in their respective fields, and leverages significant industrial and stakeholder support. As the Sheffield Hallam Postdoctoral Research Associate, your work will focus upon the development of functional inorganic materials capable of integration into "immortal systems" and on hybrid integration and proof of concept studies.
As well as a relevant PhD, you will have hands-on experience with characterisation of inorganic materials using techniques such as XRD, XRF, SEM, Raman, thermal analysis, optical spectroscopies and mechanical property analysis. The ability to work effectively both independently and in teams is essential.
For non EU applicants please be advised that due to a new minimum salary threshold of £30,000 per annum imposed by the UK Visas and Immigration we may not be able to offer a certificate of sponsorship for this job. The majority of our new employees normally start at the bottom the appropriate grade, although the chair of the appointment panel can recommend a higher starting salary taking into account things like relevant skills and experience.
