This post will be part of a new EPSRC-funded multidisciplinary project “MUltiphase Flow-induced Fluid-flexible structure InteractioN in Subsea applications (MUFFINS)” and you will focus on the development of reduced-order fluid-structure interaction models, computationally efficient methodologies and open-source tools to predict the dynamic behaviours, fatigue life and likelihood of failure of long flexible cylindrical structures subject to the combined loading effects of internal multiphase flow-induced vibration, external flow vortex-induced vibration, and overall fluid-pipe interactions at fundamental and practical levels.

You will have a PhD (or near completion) in a relevant discipline (Civil, Mechanical, Offshore, Subsea or Oil & Gas Engineering, or Applied Mathematics) and will have an excellent record in mathematical modelling, computer programming and data management. You will have fundamental and practical knowledge in multiphase liquid-gas flows, flow-induced vibrations, vortex-induced vibrations, fluid-structure interactions, offshore subsea pipelines and risers in oil & gas energy applications, with experience in working with industry.

You will have excellent interpersonal and project management skills, excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to write technical reports and scientific journal papers, with experience in big data analysis and management, and in transferring knowledge to a general public and non-specialist audiences.

The post is available fixed term for 36 months

For enquiries about the post, please contact the project Principal Investigator and Consortium Lead Dr Narakorn Srinil ([email protected] ).
