    The Sustainable Energy research group at HBKU is currently recruiting a postdoctoral researcher in the area of computational fluid dynamics. The ongoing research aim is to develop new methods and techniques to model the physics that dictate the fluid flow and transport at the sub-surface level for CO2 sequestration projects. Qatar is considered one of the largest emitters for CO2 per capita in the World, one solution is to reinject the emitted CO2 in depleted sub-surface reservoirs. New computational and discretization techniques are needed to model these complex physical sub-surface flow behaviors.

    Example areas you might work in include:
    • Investigating and developing new higher-order discretization techniques for general purpose reservoir simulation.
    • Investigating the role of sub-surface physics for the feasibility of CO2 injection projects.
    • Developing a prototype reservoir simulator for high performance computing that include a parallel computing architecture.
    • Working and collaborating with our partners’ development teams in Qatar and around the world.

    The successful candidate will be working under the guidance of Dr. Ahmad Abushaikha.

    Qualifications, skills and experience:
    Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Petroleum/ Hydrological Engineering, Physics, Reservoir Geosciences or Applied Mathematics and have a demonstrated technical background including numerical modelling, discretization methods, parallel programming, and linear solvers. A candidate should have an extensive knowledge in the following areas:
    • Computational modeling of fluid flow and transport in porous media.
    • Programming languages such as C++ .
    • Design of parallel computing architectures.
    • Linear and non-linear solvers for non-linear problems.
