    The UCL Cancer Institute is a £40 million investment in central London based at University College London (UCL), one of the world’s top universities and a founding member of the Crick Institute. UCL Cancer Institute draws together over 300 scientists working together to develop world-class basic and translational cancer research.

    We are looking for a talented and enthusiastic Research Associate to join the Cell Communication lab at the UCL Cancer Institute. The successful applicant will use mass-cytometry to measure single-cell oncogenic signalling across epithelial, stromal, and immune cells in colorectal cancer (CRC). Specifically, the project aims to understand how loss of APC in epithelial cells alters signalling in stromal fibroblasts and macrophages across the CRC tumour microenvironment. The Research Associate will use cutting edge single-cell technologies to investigate cell-cell communication in genetically engineered organoids and murine models of CRC.

    Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: planning, performing, analysing and interpret experiments under the direction of the grant holder, Dr. Chris Tape, with the aim of creating research tools and of furthering knowledge related to the research project; performing experiments to understand APC heterocellular signaling across cells in the CRC microenvironment using advanced high-dimensional mass-cytometry, heterocellular phosphoproteomics, and organoid cell culture; making figures for internal and external presentations, drafting manuscripts for publication.

    The post is funded by CRUK for a period of 36 months in the first instance.


    The successful applicant should hold a relevant Ph.D. in biomedical science. Experience in flow/mass-cytometry and organoid culture will be advantageous. Familiarity with analysing high-dimensional signalling data (using Cytobank, R, or MATLAB) will also be beneficial. It is anticipated that the Research Associate will present their findings at national and international meetings, and submit original research for peer-reviewed publications.
