Research Fellow in Climate Change Adaptation

Here at Cranfield, we can offer you the opportunity and resources to really develop your career. Cranfield is an exclusively postgraduate university that is a global leader for education and transformational research in technology and management.

The Water theme has an international reputation for its transformational research and teaching in the science, engineering and management of water in the municipal, industrial and natural environments. Our activities deliver pioneering research that has changed water management thinking and practice and provide progressive educational and research support for practitioners, often through ground breaking collaborations with the private sector. These contributions are founded on strong scientific foundations and are drawn from right across the science and humanities spectrum.

You will support the Institute’s contribution to “Impacts and risks from high-end scenarios: Strategies for innovative solutions (IMPRESSIONS)”, a project funded by the European Commission’s Seventh Framework Programme. IMPRESSIONS aims to advance understanding of the implications of high-end climate and socio-economic change, involving temperature increases above 2°C, and to help decision-makers apply such knowledge within integrated adaptation and mitigation strategies.

You will model and analyse multi- and inter-sectoral adaptation pathways in Europe, covering urban, agricultural, forestry, water resources, flooding and biodiversity sectors and to contribute to the cross-sectoral and cross-scale synthesis activities of IMPRESSIONS. You will also support the delivery of other research contracts for clients on a range of water resource management issues including water security, catchment processes, and agricultural water use.

You will have a PhD obtained (or be close to completion) in Environmental Science or a related discipline, strong data analysis, experience of applying a range of modelling techniques or disciplines to environmental problems, a growing publication track record and well-developed written and oral communication skills.

For an informal discussion, please contact Prof Ian Holman, Professor of Integrated Land and Water Management, on +44 (0)1234 758277 or (E); [email protected]

Cranfield University is committed to promoting a harmonious working and learning environment where everyone is treated with respect and dignity, recognising that the contribution of all its people will be most effective in conditions which are inclusive.

We are signatories to the Athena SWAN Charter and achieved a Bronze Opportunity Now Award. We also run the Leadership Foundation’s Aurora Programme, which is a leadership development programme, aimed at women in an academic, technical or professional service role.

Your career at Cranfield will be enhanced through access to fully equipped shared laboratory and pilot facilities, extensive research and business training through our learning and development team and doctoral training centres in a collegiate and supportive environment.
