    The appointment will be full time on UCL Grade 7. The salary range will be £31,076 - £38,183 per annum, exclusive of London Allowance.

    We are seeking an exceptionally motivated and qualified catalysis scientist for a Research Associate position in catalytic science, as part of the EPSRC UK Catalysis Hub at Harwell in Oxfordshire. The successful applicant will need to have experience in heterogeneous catalysis preparation, screening and characterisation including the use of in-situ or operando techniques and synchrotron radiation (E.g. XAFS and XRD), and will contribute to the development of multidisciplinary research across the five inter-related themes of the UK Catalysis Hub: Catalyst Design - led by Professor Richard Catlow, University College London) Environmental Catalysis - (led by Professor Graham Hutchings, Cardiff University Catalysis for Energy- (led by Professor Christopher Hardacre, University of Manchester ) Catalysis for Chemical Transformations - (led by Professor Matthew Davidson, University of Bath) Biocatalysis and Biotransformations – (led by Professor Nick Turner University of Manchester).

    The Research Associate will be expected to play a major role in the research conducted by the Hub and will have the opportunity to contribute to a number of projects during their tenure. The appointee will develop and apply detailed characterisation of the synthesised materials including the development and application of synchrotron techniques.

    This appointment is funded by the EPSRC for one year, in the first instance.

    The appointee will have a PhD degree or equivalent in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or other Physical Sciences, and an extensive background and track record in catalysis including the synthesis of catalyst materials, their analysis and catalytic testing methods. Previous experience in synchrotron techniques and analysis of acquired data will be essential for the role.

    Please note, the appointment at Grade 7 is dependent upon having been awarded a PhD; if this is not the case, initial appointment will be at Research Assistant Grade 6 (salary £26,829 - £28,452 per annum) with payment at Grade 7 being backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD thesis.
