Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Cardiovascular Medicine

We are seeking a talented postdoctoral researcher with experience of undertaking clinical research projects and, in particular, collecting and handling imaging data. You will use both brain and cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging, in combination with data from exercise physiology and echocardiography, to investigate the ‘cardiac-vascular-brain’ axis in young adults predisposed to early hypertension and stroke.

You will undertake research study visits, including clinical magnetic resonance and physiology studies, as well as work on image analysis and interpretation. You will hold a relevant PhD/DPhil, or be in the late stages of completion, and have proven experience in performing clinical imaging relevant to the project (brain and/or cardiovascular), as well as a willingness and ability to build experience in new techniques. You will be an active team member, working alongside other post-doctoral researchers and DPhil students, within a dynamic and fast moving research environment, but with an expectation that you will manage and develop your own academic research and associated activities.

The research will be based at the Oxford Cardiovascular Clinical Research Facility (CCRF) in the John Radcliffe Hospital under the direction of Professor Paul Leeson, Clinical Director of CCRF. Magnetic resonance imaging and analysis will be performed within the Oxford Centre for Clinical Magnetic Resonance Research (OCMR). The role is funded by the British Heart Foundation and forms a key part of a programme of work that uses imaging to explore cardiovascular risk in young adults. Funding is fixed term for 3 years and the post is available from 1st August (or as soon as possible thereafter)

Informal enquiries should be directed to Professor Paul Leeson ([email protected]) or Dr Wilby Williamson ([email protected]) all enquiries will be treated in strict confidence; they will not form part of the selection decision.

Applications are particularly welcome from women and black and minority ethnic candidates, who are under-represented in academic posts in Oxford.

Applications for this vacancy are to be made online; you will be required to upload a supporting statement and a copy of your CV as part of your online application. To apply for this role and for further details, including a job description and person specification, please click on the link.

Only applications received before midday on Friday 14th July 2017 can be considered. Interviews are anticipated to be held on Tuesday 8th August.
