    Research Fellow in Dynamics of Offshore Wind Turbines

    Fixed Term contract until 1 April 2020

    £31,620 per annum

    We are currently recruiting a Research Fellow to work on a project that brings together cutting edge offshore renewable energy researchers who will work across discipline boundaries to lower risks and costs of offshore wind farm maintenance. Within this project, the role of Cranfield University (and therefore the Research Fellow) is to mainly focus on the development of an aerodynamic-hydrodynamic-servo-elastic coupled model of dynamics of a representative wind farm, to be coupled with a thermo-electro-mechanical-magnetic model of dynamics to be developed by another group, in order to have an improved model to study the operation and deterioration of the wind farm.

    This project will improve the quantity and quality of actionable data for wind farm operation and maintenance. It will do this through improved models of the operation and deterioration of the wind farm, through improved (higher quality and more targeted) sensing and condition monitoring, through better schemes for data analysis and through a better understanding of the use of flexible sensing platforms (robots). This will give the operator a better set of decision support tools. To ensure the improved information this provides is actionable, strong stakeholder engagement will be undertaken from the outset.

    You will be educated to doctoral level in a subject area related to mechanical / naval / offshore / offshore renewable engineering, focused on modelling and analysis of dynamic systems, or related discipline, or the equivalent in professional qualifications and experience, and will have extensive experience of modelling and analysis of dynamic systems. Experience of modelling and analysis of offshore renewable energy systems would be an advantage. Communication skills, particularly a demonstrated ability to publish in high-quality journals and conferences is essential in addition to excellent presentation skills. An ability to conduct research within a multidisciplinary and multicultural team is essential as is a positive attitude to internal and external collaborations. Due to the requirement to travel nationally, and internationally for conferences, client meetings etc. you should have no travel restrictions.
