Postdoctoral Fellowship in Electrochemistry

The electrochemistry group at the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, NTNU, invites applications for a post-doctoral fellowship of two years' duration focusing on an innovative concept in water electrolysis, the advanced rotating water electrolysers. Rotating water electrolysers perform electrochemical water splitting under super-gravity conditions, which has been shown to reduce electrode polarization and ohmic losses through facile release of gas bubbles. The resulting efficiency improvements are particularly important in applications of water electrolysis for supplying hydrogen for fuel cells in energy systems based on renewable energy sources.

We are seeking a post-doctoral candidate who can play a leading role in establishing experimental techniques and expand the associated analysis techniques relevant for water electrolysis under super-gravity conditions from an applied perspective. We expect the candidate to be willing to collaborate closely with the industrial partner who supports the research.

The candidate should hold a doctoral degree in materials science, chemistry or physics. Candidates with a strong background in electrochemistry will have a competitive advantage. However, highly motivated candidates with different backgrounds, willing to commit themselves to electrochemical work are explicitly encouraged to apply.

The duration of the fellowship is two years. A primary goal of the postdoc position is to support the industry in providing practically working solutions, but also to provide output of significant academic merit. In addition to experience in establishing experimental facilities the selection procedure will therefore also emphasize communication skills, written and oral, and an ability to collaborate.

The application must contain information on previous education, exams, and professional experience, including copies of transcripts from master and bachelor degree. Publications and other scientific reports that the applicant would like the university to consider must be submitted electronically along with the other attachments. Candidates are encouraged to briefly account for their contribution in joint publications.

The position requires spoken and written fluency in the English language. Applicants from non-English-speaking countries outside Europe must document English skill by an approved test.

The starting date is any time between June 15 and December 15, 2017.

The primary workplace will be Department of Materials Science and Engineering, NTNU, Trondheim, Norway.

The appointment of the post doctor fellow will be made according to Norwegian guidelines for universities and university colleges and to the general regulations regarding university employees. The national labour force should reflect the composition of the population to the greatest possible extent, and thus women are especially encouraged to apply.

The position as Post doctor is remunerated according to the Norwegian State salary scale. There is a 2% deduction for superannuation contribution.

Applications must be submitted electronically through this page.
Applications submitted elsewhere will not be considered.

Mark the application with ref.no NV-30/17.

Application deadline is March 20, 2017
