The Molecular Biology of Leukemia lab (Prof. Jan Cools, VIB, KU Leuven) is looking for a postdoctoral researcher for the computational analysis of next-generation sequencing data obtained from studies on leukemia.

Projects will focus on (i) bioinformatics/statistics method development for RNA-seq, ChIP-seq and other NGS data analysis from leukemia cells; (ii) the integration of these data to understand the cooperation of oncogenes during leukemia development using patient derived xenografts, mouse leukemia models and leukemia cell lines.

This position is open to both junior and experienced (computer) scientists. We look for highly motivated candidates with a track record in bio-informatics and an interest in leukemia research. We provide a stimulating and strong scientific environment in a cancer department.

    Profile:
    • PhD in bioinformatics, computational biology, data mining, biostatistics, engineering or equivalent
    • Good programming skills (perl/python/ruby/java/C++ etc, SQL, R), proficiency in Unix/Linux and high performance computing systems experience
    • Experience with next-generation sequencing data analysis (e.g. RNA-seq, ChIP-seq, exome sequencing) is a plus
    • Experience with cancer related data analysis is a plus

    We offer:
VIB-KULeuven is an exciting, interdisciplinary research institute with excellent facilities and strong research groups in genetics, oncology, neurobiology, immunology, virology, molecular biology and translational research. The laboratory of Prof. Jan Cools is located on the Gasthuisberg campus of the KU Leuven (Faculty of Medicine, Center for Human Genetics) and has on-site high-throughput computing resources as well as next-gen sequencing facilities (mi/next/hiSeq, PacBio, oxford nanopore, single-cell infrastructure).
