Project: Living cells rely on the constant supply of energy, and their unique ability to self organize functionalities relies on its active nature. In our group we are interested in the self organization of cytoskeletal structures and aim for the reconstitution of functional modules which leads ultimately to dynamic reorganization of its constituents. To this end we apply a bottom-up approach where we control the complexity of our in vitro model systems using purified protein components. In your project, we aim for the reconstitution of active actin networks in vesicles, where the treadmilling dynamics of actin is harnessed to induce dynamic reorganization of the lipid membrane. The interaction with other cytoskeletal systems will also be of interest and one ultimate goal is to also reconstitute these interaction. The project is embedded in the Center for NanoScience Munich (CeNS) and the Opens external link in new windowCollaborative Research Center SFB 863.

Requirements: We are looking for an enthusiastic and creative researcher who has completed a PhD in either biophysics, biochemistry, bioengineering, molecular cell biology, or a related field. Profound experience with experimental lab work is required.

Group: Prof. Dr. Andreas Bausch, biophysics group, physics department, TUM Garching

Start: May 1, 2017 or sooner
