Postdoctoral Research Position in Human Computer Interaction and Inclusive Design

    Position overview:
The ICT research group at HBKU is currently recruiting a postdoctoral researcher in the area of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI). The ongoing research aim is to explore and demonstrate how HCI as a field of applied enquiry can contribute to building an inclusive, more accessible, and sustainable future for Qatar and the world. In an era of big data, in which technology is integrated into nearly every aspect of life, several demographic groups remain unconsidered. Computing issues related to user groups such as children, the elderly, and people with different disabilities are rarely surveyed in computing research. The aim of this research work is to build upon the existing body of HCI knowledge from an inclusive perspective.

Example areas you might work in include:
    • Researching, evaluating and supporting different applications of cross-modal interaction: when people using different interaction modalities (i.e. visual/audio/haptic) work together on common tasks using a variety of platforms.
    • Conducting Human-Computer Interaction research with people with disabilities in order to explore and address accessibility issues in diverse contexts and settings.
    • Working towards involving inclusive design and evaluation approaches in HCI research.
    • Investigating the role of social media and its uses for non-standard populations.

The successful candidate will be working under the guidance of Dr Dena Al Thani.

    Job summary/basic function:
The candidate will be responsible for conducting research and mentoring MS and PhD students in research projects on Human-Computer Interaction, interaction design, and inclusive design. The candidate will also be involved in seeking funding and will have the opportunity to develop their lecturing experience. HBKU offers a very competitive compensation package that includes an attractive salary and many generous benefits.
