We are seeking to recruit a highly motivated and collaborative individual to join the group of Dr Alessio Vagnoni in the Department of Basic and Clinical Neuroscience at King’s College London. The project advertised is part of a long-term research programme aimed at advancing our basic understanding of neuronal cell biology. We are particularly interested in studying neuronal trafficking, with a focus on the intricate relationship between mitochondrial dynamics and neuronal functions. Our primary interest extends to the cell biology of neurodegeneration and neuronal ageing.
You will focus on (one of) the following questions: (1) what are the consequences of altered mitochondrial dynamics in the context of neuronal ageing and neurodegeneration? (2) what are the cellular factors contributing to the plasticity of the mitochondrial network?
During the project, you will be able to combine in vivo and in vitro approaches by using Drosophila melanogaster and mammalian cell culture models. This post represents a unique opportunity to join a dynamic research group employing Drosophila genetics, advanced microscopy, Drosophila and mammalian cell culture, biochemistry, molecular biology, optogenetics and behavioural assays. The Department of Basic and Clinical Neuroscience is located within the Maurice Wohl Clinical Neuroscience Institute, which has excellent laboratories and access to cutting-edge equipment and core facilities.
Contact details: Alessio Vagnoni,
[email protected] This post will be offered on a fixed-term contract for 3 years
This is a full-time post - 100% full time equivalent
Closing date: 8 January 2023.
