Research Fellow (Cities, Climate and Innovation)



    The postholder will undertake the following duties:
    • Contributing to policy-focused research outputs, including policy briefs and reports, and any evidence and policy briefings needed for the work to have impact;
    • Engaging and developing relationships with relevant external stakeholders in the public and private sectors internationally;
    • Helping to develop the Cities workstream at IIPP with a commitment to an intersectional, systems-level approach based on rethinking the role of innovation, the state and private actors, and new economic approaches, including the need for a ‘just and equitable transition';
    • Attending formal and informal meetings for Cities projects, including all Council on Urban Initiative meetings, in support of the Director, including providing background briefing and taking notes of and actioning follow-ups;
    • Managing the operational delivery, budget and content development/delivery of Cities projects;
    • Helping to put together op-eds and other vehicles (e.g. blog posts on IIPP’s Medium account) through which to disseminate the research and work of IIPP in the Cities area;
    • Supporting the writing of bids for new Cities projects and writing funders’ reports;
    • Maintaining their own continuing professional development; and
    • Participating in the administration of IIPP in line with Professional Services requests and activities. Depending on the time available, the postholder may be asked to help with other activities, such as:
    • Supporting in the development of Executive Education (Exec Ed) modules to build public-sector capacity in cities/regions;
    • Helping to deliver the Master’s of Public Administration (MPA) programme and support other undergraduate, graduate and Exec Ed programmes as appropriate;
    • Supervising or helping to supervise undergraduate and taught graduate (Master’s) students); and
    • Providing broader support to other relevant IIPP projects (e.g., within the Policy Studio), such as through attending team meetings, liaising with partners, and co-organising events.
    Job descriptions cannot be exhaustive and so the post holder may be required to undertake other duties which are in line with the scope, spirit and purpose of the job as requested by the line manager. As duties and responsibilities change and develop the job description may be reviewed and be subject to amendment in consultation with the post holder.
