About the role
A Postdoctoral Research Assistant position is available in the Department of Organismal Biology at Queen Mary University of London under the supervision of Dr Yannick Wurm.
Bees and other insects are essential for ecosystem stability. Reports of their declines worldwide are thus concerning. We will combine animal experiments with molecular tools to understand how pollinators are affected by changing environments and their abilities to cope with such changes. Other team members (e.g., MSc, PhD students) will collaborate with the PDRA on parts of the project.
The Organismal Biology Department in Queen Mary’s School of Biological and Behavioural Sciences hosts >10 evolutionary genomics labs. The Wurm lab (https://wurmlab.com/) uses genomics tools to understand the ecological and evolutionary context of social insects. We use QMUL’s research computing cluster which is ideal for genomics work, modern molecular labs and animal rearing facilities. We value team work, collaboration, lifelong learning, agile workflows, and high impact open science.

About You
The successful candidate should hold a PhD (or equivalent) in evolutionary genetics, behavioural ecology, ecological genomics, bioinformatics, toxicogenomics or a related field. The candidate should be able to provide evidence of expertise in insect evolutionary ecology, comparative genomics and bioinformatics and a willingness to develop expertise in all areas that will be required for the project. Self-motivation, an ability to work as part of a team and excellent research management and presentation skills are essential.
