Postdoctoral Research Associate in Organic Chemistry (Fixed Term)

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 2 years in the first instance.

Applications are invited for a 2-year Postdoctoral Research Associate (PDRA) under the supervision of Professor Erwin Reisner in the Yusuf Hamied Department of Chemistry at the University of Cambridge. The project will support the development of the controlled synthesis of organic chemicals at high efficiency using sunlight by combining the strength of synthetic and biological technologies. An integrated platform will be developed that incorporates efficient light harvesting by semiconductors to drive a network of synthetic and biological catalysts to convert CO2 to bespoke complex chemical products. The PDRA will work within a cross-disciplinary team with the ambition to develop direct photon-to-chemical conversion technologies based on integrated catalysis networks to synthesise high value chemicals sustainably from sunlight.

The PDRA should have (or be about to obtain) a PhD in Organic Chemistry or a closely related discipline. A background in the development of synthetic organic methodologies, photochemistry or electrocatalysis would be desirable for the position.

Start date: January to October 2023.
