A talented and creative postdoctoral researcher is sought to work in the Wilson group in the Department of Pharmacology (
https://www.phar.cam.ac.uk/research/Wilson) on a British Heart Foundation-funded project. The goal of this project is to determine if transient co-expression of Myc and Cyclin T1 activates controlled proliferation of cardiomyocytes and functional regeneration of cardiac muscle after experimental MI, with an overarching aim to develop transformative cardiac regenerative therapeutics.
The successful applicant will work in the Wilson group in the Department of Pharmacology, Cambridge University and will employ genetically modified mice and surgical models of heart attack. They will develop and test novel RNA based therapeutics in vitro and in vivo. They will combine histological, fluorescent and single cell resolution transcriptional analysis with cardiac function analysis to determine the spatio-temporal effects of regenerative gene expression.
Responsibilities will include managing research activities and animal work, generating high quality data and developing scientific techniques. You will be expected to take a lead in some areas of the research and contribute intellectually to the direction of the research project. You will be expected to present your data locally at lab meetings and seminars, and more widely at international scientific conferences. You will be expected to assist in drafting scientific manuscripts.
Candidates should be highly motivated and productive with an enthusiastic approach to science. You will have exceptional organisational skills. You will be skilled at presenting your data, verbally and written. You should be committed to collaborative and interdisciplinary research and be able to work both independently and part of a research team. The post is particularly suitable for candidates who have recently completed a PhD and have experience in molecular/cellular biology relevant to the project. Experience with animal models, including surgical models and in vivo imaging or holding a Home Office personal license is highly desirable. Experience in cardiovascular research, molecular biology techniques, microscopic image analysis, single nuclei RNA sequencing, and bioinformatics/biostatistics will be highly advantageous.
