    Applications are invited for a Temporary post of a UCD Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 2 within UCD School of Medicine
    University College Dublin (UCD) is seeking applications for the role of Post-Doctoral Research Fellow for the IMI2 HIPPOCRATES project (https://hippocrates-imi.eu/) which is led Prof Oliver FitzGerald and Prof Stephen Pennington. The role, based in the Conway Institute for Biomedical and Biomolecular Research in UCD, will involve extensive research collaboration with research centres throughout Europe and the UK.

    HIPPOCRATES is an exciting new Innovative Medicines Initiative (IMI2) consortium. The consortium comprises 26 European partners including 4 pharmaceutical companies, who collaboratively will address 4 major unmet needs associated with psoriatic arthritis (PsA). Psoriatic arthritis (PsA) is a chronic immune-mediated inflammatory disease that affects joints and other components of the musculoskeletal system, together with skin involvement, in an estimated 5-10 million individuals in the EU. This UCD component of the project aims to improve diagnostic and therapeutic options for patients living with the PsA by applying the latest proteomics methods to identify novel protein biomarkers. The project runs to June 2026.

    This is an advanced research focused role, building on your prior experience as a post-doctoral fellow, where you will conduct a specified programme of research supported by research training under the supervision and direction of a Principal Investigator.

    The primary purpose of the role is to develop new or advanced research skills and competences, on the processes of publication in peer-reviewed academic publications and scholarly dissemination, the development of funding proposals, and the supervision and mentorship of graduate students along with the opportunity to develop your skills in research led teaching.

    In addition to the Principal Duties and Responsibilities listed below, the successful candidate will also carry out the following duties specific to this project


    • Although the post-holder may be asked to take on other responsibilities as required during the development and implementation of HIPPOCRATES project, the role has the following core remits:
    • Using clinical samples from multiple psoriasis, PsA and other cohorts apply
    • Apply unbiased liquid chromatography-mass LC-MS/MS proteomics discovery strategies to clinical samples from multiple psoriasis, PsA and other cohorts
    • Use appropriate statistical analysis methods to identify novel individual serum proteins or panels of proteins
    • Mentor and assist research graduate students and other lab-based researchers
    • Support the UCD Project leads in the coordination of the research activities

    Salary: €46,906 - €48,242 per annum
    Appointment on the above range will be dependent on qualifications and experience
