Postdoctoral positions in bioinformatics and synthetic ecology of the human gut microbiome

    About the Lab:

The lab of Jeroen Raes (VIB, KU Leuven) is home to an enthusiastic, diverse and international group of researchers in the field of gut microbial ecology and its clinical applications. Beyond our expertise in metagenomic analysis using our in-house bioinformatics approaches as well as clinical know-how in cohort studies, the lab has in recent years invested anaerobic microbiology of colon bacteria in order to study their physiology, function and interactions.

    Postdoctoral positions

    Position 1:

We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher within our high-throughput anaerobic fermentation unit. The candidate is expected to develop research lines in the area of synthetic gut ecology concerning species interactions, gut metabolism and cross-feeding, microbiota modulation strategies in health and clinical application. The candidate can build upon significant population and patient cohorts and microbiome data, as well as a large internal gut isolate culture collection.

    Position 2:

We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher in the computational analysis of microbiome data, with a particular emphasis on human-associated microbial communities in health and disease.

    Projects will focus on:

    (i) bioinformatics/statistics method development for joint host and microbiota data analysis, multi-omics and clinical data integration and/or
(ii) their application to large scale datasets generated within the Flemish Gut Flora project cohort (n>5000), in a wide range of disease cohorts as well as in international projects. Both cross-sectional, time-series and intervention data is being generated in the lab.
