Are you an ambitious researcher looking for your next challenge? Do you have an established background in the biomedical sciences? Do you want to further your career in one of the UKs leading research intensive Universities?

We are looking for a self-motivated and enthusiastic post-doctoral fellow to join the Lukacs lab. We are a dynamically growing and well-resourced group. Our main interest is to uncover and study the molecular aspects of mechanical, thermal, and chemical sensory function in the peripheral nervous system. We have expertise in a broad range of techniques, including gene editing, molecular biology, electrophysiology and various imaging techniques.

The project entails studying novel molecular players in the field of mammalian mechanosensation and mechanotransduction. The discovery of Piezo ion channels, recently awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine, brought a wealth of new understanding to this field. It also highlighted the existence of unknown molecular players in the complex process of detecting mechanical cues. We aim to study such novel molecules and their function in detecting mechanical cues of the environment.

The successful candidate should have expertise in patch clamp electrophysiology, and molecular biology. Prior experience in fluorescent imaging, Next-Gen Sequencing, and bioinformatics will be an advantage, but are not essential. As part of a collaborative effort, the candidate will also have access to our unique, state-of-the-art screening platform technology that combines genome editing, fluorescent cell sorting and advanced sequencing techniques to conduct genome-wide searches for novel genes.

Our lab is part of the Omics and Neur@l research collectives at the University of Leeds. At the University of Leeds Faculty of Biological Sciences, we are committed to providing equal opportunities for all and offer a range of family- friendly policies. The University is a charter member of Athena SWAN, and the Faculty of Biological Sciences was awarded a Silver award in 2020. We are proud to be an inclusive Faculty that values all staff, and are happy to consider job share applications and requests for flexible working arrangements from our employees. Our Athena SWAN webpage provides more information.
