Postdoctoral Fellow - Complementary Nutrition

The Riddet Institute is a world-best research centre in food and nutritional sciences, providing fundamental scientific understanding and training for a new generation of science leaders.

The Institute integrates partner organisations (Massey University (host), Auckland and Otago Universities, AgResearch and Plant and Food Research) and disciplines, leading a 'NZ Inc' approach to food research, and generates knowledge and capability that transforms the New Zealand food industry.

The Postdoctoral Scientist position is in the Riddet Institute but will be based largely at the Fonterra Research and Development Centre in Palmerston North (a CoRE industry partner). The project will contribute to Fonterra's Complementary Nutrition Programme and is funded by Fonterra Ltd.

Where and when appropriate the position may contribute to the research aims of the CoRE research programme where there is complementarity and overlap.

The work will be centred on undertaking research on the physico-chemical properties of new food ingredients including proteins and fats/oils produced from plants and via technologies such as fermentation.
In addition, the role will be required to provide analysis of the techno-economic and environmental performance of the ingredients production systems and their use in food products.

Research will be used to support the creation of intellectual property and publications in peer-reviewed journals.

We are seeking a high-achieving researcher who has completed a Ph.D. and will have a strong commitment to develop in this research program. Skills related to effective communication and problem solving as well as the ability to work in multidisciplinary teams are required.

The salary will depend on experience but will be in the range of Postdoctoral Fellow, with appointment for an initial term of two years.
