Liquid Biopsy and Cancer Biology (m/f/d)

Heidelberg University Hospital and the DKFZ have established the Clinical Cooperation Unit „Multiparametric Methods for the Early Detection of Prostate Cancer“ (Lead: Dr. Magdalena Görtz). The working group conducts clinical and translational research with biomaterials to develop new approaches for the diagnosis and risk stratification of prostate cancer. In order to advance prostate cancer diagnostics and early therapy, we seek to achieve omics profiling of liquid biopsies, tumor samples, and clinical outcome. The working group, in close cooperation with the Department of Cancer Genome Research at the DKFZ (Prof. Holger Sültmann) and the Department of Translational Molecular Urooncology at Heidelberg University Hospital (Prof. Stefan Duensing), is looking for a Postdoc with a focus on Liquid Biopsy and molecular biology work. The place of employment is in Heidelberg.

The position is initially limited to 2 years. Salary will be paid according to TV-L.

    Tasks and responsibilities
    • Identification and evaluation of biomarkers (cfDNA, DNA, miRNA, extracellular vesicles) in liquid samples (plasma, urine) and tissue from human individuals
    • Method development and optimization
    • Application of multi-omic approaches (epigenome, genome, transcriptome) on large patient datasets
    • Correlation of molecular parameters in blood/urine with tumor tissue and clinical outcome
    • Close collaboration with bioinformaticians and clinicians, participation in the acquisition of third-party funds

    Prerequisites
We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral research fellow to join our interdisciplinary team. You are collaborative, ambitious, scientifically adventurous, and curiosity-driven. You hold a PhD in biology, biochemistry, biomedicine or a related field. Extended experience in basic and advanced cellular and molecular biology wet lab techniques are required. Prior experience in the analysis and management of NGS data is desirable.

You should have demonstrated the ability to work independently and creatively, set clear goals and communicate within an interdisciplinary setting.
