Applications are invited for a post-doctoral research associate to develop and support Shetland UHI research on marine management as part of the ‘Integrating Diverse Values into Management’ project (
www.smmr.org.uk/funded-projects/integrating-diverse-values-into-management/). This is a multi-partner project led by the University of Portsmouth and funded through the Sustainable Management of Marine Resources (SMMR) programme.
Your main duties will be to facilitate the delivery of the four key aims of the project (see project web page – link above – for details) within the Shetland case study area. This will include using transdisciplinary research methods to develop and test approaches to gathering and embedding diverse values into marine management.
You should have a PhD in a relevant area of research, such as marine management or marine social science.
You should have experience of working with a range of stakeholders, knowledge of the UK’s marine management systems, and experience of transdisciplinary research. Knowledge of marine policy and ocean literacy would be advantageous. You will need to be a highly collaborative team player, communicate openly with the principal investigator and wider project team, and foster excellent relations with stakeholders and partners.
You will be expected to present research results at meetings, conferences and to stakeholders and the public, and will be an active member of the wider project team. Some travel between case-study areas in the Severn Estuary, Portsmouth and Shetland will be required. It is anticipated the project will deliver several high-quality publications.
