About the Role
This role is a 2 year - Fixed Term Contract
The Climate and Earth Observation group at NPL is a world leader in the theory, methods and practice of metrological traceability of Earth Observation (EO) instrumentation and their data products. CEO projects span the full life cycle of EO instrumentation traceability; from pre-flight calibration, in-orbit validation & sensor inter-operability, together with L1, L2 and derived product quality assurance.
The EMN for Climate and Ocean Observation is led by NPL, and was established by the European Association for National Metrology Institutes (EURAMET) to provide a structure for collaboration of the European metrology institutes in a field of significant societal importance. It is the European contribution to a global effort to further enhance metrological best practice into climate system and observations through targeted research efforts.
About You
We are looking for a Delivery Manager with a scientific background, preferably in climate science, observational networks, meteorology or Earth sciences, and/or experience of metrology.
The successful candidate will join the CEO team to manage the planning and production of scientist communications across existing and future projects, and work in partnership with the EMN Chair to coordinate the operation of the EMN.
Key activities:
Building relationships with key external stakeholders, arranging meetings with them and establishing a stakeholder network and an advisory board with members from science, industry and international organisations
Supporting the coordination and extension of the European network
Supporting the chair and EURAMET officials with the development of an EMN strategy, organising and participating in meetings and writing the outline documents
Organisation of scientific events (conferences, workshops and courses) and specifically support in coordinating the EMN response to the September 2022 BIPM-WMO Workshop on Metrology in Climate Action
Working with teams to plan and coordinate the production of outreach material, which may include the opportunity to attend fieldwork campaigns to support filming of promotional videos
Developing presentational material such as infographics, promotional videos and attractive websites – either personally, or by liaising with experts
Using scientific case studies to write external facing articles for NPL, and partner websites
Qualifications:
Experience in managing complex projects
Interest in and understanding of climate science and/or metrology, through a degree in Earth sciences, physical sciences, chemistry or mathematics or time working in a related organisation
Enjoys independent work in an interdisciplinary team, able to take the initiative
Highly organised and able to balance multiple simultaneous priorities (for self and for team)
Excellent communication skills
