Systems analysis of bidirectional Eph-ephrin signalling in Cancer

The Institute of Cancer Research (a College of the University of London) is a world-class cancer research organisation. In the 2008 Higher Education Funding Councils' Research Assessment Exercise, The ICR received the highest percentage of research assessed as four stars, world leading, in the areas of biological sciences and cancer studies. We came top of the Times Higher Education overall table of HEIs that submitted to more than one UoA - ranking it as the UK's leading academic research centre, with 37% of activity ranked 4* (world leading) and 42% ranked 3* (internationally excellent). We are ranked fourth internationally (and first outside the USA) for publishing scientific papers with the biggest impact on basic and clinical cancer research between 1994-2003 according to bibliometric analysis undertaken by Evidence Ltd.

A post is available for a Post-doctoral Training Fellow to work in the Cell Communication Team (Team Leader Dr Claus Jørgensen) on a project designed to systematically analyze bidirectional Eph-ephrin signalling in cancer using quantitative phospho-proteomics and RNAi screening. This work will build on our recent publication (Jørgensen et al. Science 2009; 326 1502-9). The successful candidate will also be part of the newly established integrative network biology initiative at the ICR, and will collaborate with Drs Rune Linding, Janine Erler and Chris Bakal. Experience in quantitative phospho-proteomics and/or in RNAi screening is desirable. Knowledge in tumour biology and metastasis is advantageous.

Applicants will hold a PhD in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Cell Biology or a relevant field and have experience of mammalian tissue culture, protein biochemistry and signal transduction. Experience of biological mass spectrometry (nLC-ESI-MS), quantitative proteomics or phospho-proteomics will be a distinct advantage.

Informal enquiries can be made to Dr. Claus Jørgensen (claus.jorgensen@icr.ac.uk). Please DO NOT send your application to Dr. Jørgensen; applications must be submitted in line with the instructions below.
