Research Officer/Postdoctoral Fellow Vacancy - Food Structure Design - New Zealand
Project title - Forming and Cooling of a Model Food
Main Supervisors - Professor Richard Archer, Riddet Institute and School of Food and Nutrition, Massey University, Palmerston North, New Zealand
Other Supervisors - Dr Colin Brown, Fonterra Research and Development Centre
Other Advisors - Dr Lilian Ferreira and Chris Maslin, Fonterra Cooperative Group
The postdoctoral fellow will form part of a multidisciplinary team in Food Structure Design in New Zealand and Australia funded by Fonterra and the Ministry of Primary Industries of New Zealand.
The essence of this project is to apply the principles of flow in a highly non-Newtonian viscoelastic food product to achieve cooling, flow splitting and forming of the flowing mass. The project will involve characterising flow then design, construction and use of a pilot plant fully representative of anticipated full scale dynamics.
Experiments may then be performed on commercially available pilot equipment, not necessarily in New Zealand, to confirm understanding achieved to date, confirm the likely full scale utility of particular equipment models and optimise process parameters for a range of formulations.
The successful candidate will have completed a PhD in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering or food engineering with preference given to someone with expertise in flow, heat transfer and rheology of viscoelastic materials such as foods or polymers.
The salary will depend on experience but will be in the range for postdoctoral fellows or Research Officers at Massey University, NZD67,121 to NZD85,662. The appointment will be for an initial term of two years.
Applicants please send your CV including a statement of your research interests and goals and at least two referees, plus your university transcripts when uploading your application to the following website:
