POSTDOCTORAL TRAINING FELLOW IN BIOINFORMATICS FOR CANCER GENOMICS AND DRUG RESISTANCE EVOLUTION PROGRAM

The Gerlinger group investigates the evolutionary dynamics of solid tumours during progression and drug therapy.

Key aims are to reveal recurrent evolutionary trajectories during cancer drug treatment, how therapy influences genomic instability mechanisms and how cancer immunogenicity impacts on drug resistance evolution. This work should define genotypes towards which cancer cell populations converge during therapy and the mechanisms driving cancer genomic plasticity. Our ultimate goal is to target these therapeutically in order to improve the survival of cancer patients.

The successful candidate will analyse the genome evolution of longitudinally collected colorectal and gastro-oesophageal cancer specimens. Whole genome, exome, single cell and RNA-Seq data is being generated in the sequencing facility of the ICR Centre for Evolution and Cancer which is funded by a Wellcome Trust Strategic Award. The laboratory is also closely involved in the colorectal cancer Genomics England Clinical Interpretation Partnership which will provide opportunities to analyse colorectal cancer specimens sequenced as part of the Genomics England 100.000 Genome Project.
We are looking for an outstanding and enthusiastic bioinformatician/computational biologist who recently completed a PhD or already has some experience at postdoctoral level. The candidate should have a strong interest in cancer genomics and evolution and ideally experience in cancer next-generation sequencing data analysis, copy number and structural variant analysis. He or she will work closely with our team of postdocs, bioinformaticians, wet lab and computational PhD students to further develop sequencing and bioinformatics techniques.

Appointment will be on a Fixed Term Contract of 3 years. The full salary scale is in the range from £29,517 p.a. to £42,187 p.a. inclusive. Starting salary will be based on previous postdoctoral experience.

Our group is experienced in next generation sequencing application development and data analysis, evolutionary modelling, RNAi based identification of therapeutic vulnerabilities and has a strong track record of integrating research projects into translational clinical trials to provide a stream of tissue samples for research. We work in an interdisciplinary environment with collaborative links to the Royal Marsden Gastrointestinal Cancer Unit, other research groups in the ICR Centre for Evolution and Cancer and with a number of international collaborators in cancer genomics and evolution and we require an individual with excellent team working and communication skills.

Interested candidates should contact Dr Gerlinger for additional details before submitting an application ([email protected]).

To apply please submit your CV and covering letter (addressing with specific examples where you meet the person specification and incl. the names and addresses of two referees) online at http://www.icr.ac.uk/jobsearch.
