    Project description
Our research focus on the molecular pathways leading to emphysema development and progression. We are currently using a mouse model to understand more about the mechanisms of emphysema initiation and propagation after acute lung injury, immune activation and wound healing. The proposed project will use RNA sequencing and comparative modelling to investigate links between the emphysema development in immune competent and immune deficient mouse strains, compared to emphysema of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients, and patients with mild COPD that do not have emphysema.

    Qualifications
We are looking for a skilled PhD who is enthusiastic about solving biological problems, have a large degree of independence yet still enjoy working in a team. The candidate must have:
    - A PhD awarded from a non-Swedish University, no more than 5 years ago.
    - A strong experience using R/BioConductor and common bioinformatics software (prior scripting language experience e.g. Python/Perl is a plus). Working experience in Unix/Linux environment is required.
    - A strong track-record in mRNA/miRNA expression analysis, preferably using next generation sequencing data (RNA-Seq).
    - Prior experience in pathway-, network- and gene ontology analyses of disparate omics data sets.
    - Statistical analysis experience with working knowledge of regression analysis and multivariate data analysis is preferred.
    - A good understanding of molecular cell biology and cell signalling is a plus.

Send your application to [email protected], subject WG POSTDOC, including your CV (max 2 pages including date of PhD degree, date of the thesis defence, title of the thesis, previous academic positions, academic title, current position, academic distinctions, and committee work), a complete list of publications, a summary of current work (max 1 page), reference letters and/or contact details for at least two referees. The position is open until filled.

The research group and the Respiratory Medicine unit
We are a multi-disciplinary and international research unit consisting of clinicians, pharmacists and molecular cell biologists divided into seven research groups, with further sub-teams. Within the unit, we work closely together with joint seminars and lab meetings, and combine experts in large scale -omics sample preparation and analysis, multivariate modelling alongside the molecular and histological laboratory based research into cell signalling and immune activation.
