We are seeking a highly-motivated postdoctoral Research Associate to join a large, interdisciplinary EPSRC funded Industrial Biotechnology Catalyst project carried out in collaboration with Southampton and Sheffield Universities to optimise the production of methane from organic waste via the process of anaerobic digestion.

Overall, the project aims to optimise biomethane production via a combined process, modelling and feedback control approach that will be supported by comprehensive analysis of the underlying microbial community, with the goal of developing robust methods and diagnostics that can be rapidly translated into a commercial / industrial setting.

This position will utilise state-of-the-art analytical techniques to map important microbial community changes. It represents an exciting opportunity to work in a creative academic environment on a strategically important project that relies on state-of-the-art metagenomics, transcriptomics and metabolomics-based methods.

You will have strong omics-based skills that include data handling experience and possess or will be awarded a relevant PhD within six months of starting in the post. You will be joining an inter-institutional and inter-disciplinary research programme that will require excellent collaborative and communication skills in order to make a rapid contribution to the project’s aims. You will also gain an understanding of industrial research working on a research project at the interface of academia and industry.

This post is full time and is available immediately for a period of up to 48 months.

    Informal enquiries may be made to James Chong ([email protected]; + 44 (0) 1904 328628) or Jane Thomas-Oates ([email protected]; + 44 (0) 1904 324459).
