    Context

The Francis Crick Institute is a partnership between Cancer Research UK, the Medical Research Council, the Wellcome Trust, UCL (University College London), Imperial College London and King's College London. It is a registered charity whose purpose is to conduct biomedical research into all aspects of human health and disease.

The institute will be a world-leading centre of biomedical research and innovation. It will promote connections between researchers and disciplines and between academic institutions, healthcare organisations and businesses. Dedicated to research excellence, the institute will have the scale, vision and expertise to tackle the most challenging scientific questions underpinning health and disease. It will be world-class with a strong national role—training scientists and developing ideas for public good. Due to open in 2015, the Crick will be located in a new, purpose built research centre in Brill Place, St. Pancras and will house some 1,500 staff.

    Project

We are offering a 4-year Post-doctoral Fellowship, which is a training and development position for post-doctoral scientists, in the laboratory of Dr Moritz Treeck in association with the Mass-spectrometry core technology platform lead by Dr Bram Snijders currently at the MRC National Institute of Medical Research and the London Research Institute, both of which are founding Institutes of the Francis Crick Institute.

Our group is interested in the proteins within signaling pathways of intracellular parasites (like the malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum and Toxoplasma gondii), that enable them to infect, live within and leave a host-cell. We work on diverse aspects in these areas and are looking for a motivated postdoc to join our team to enhance our mass-spectrometry toolbox with quantitative, targeted proteomics. For more information on the group visit: http://www.crick.ac.uk/research/a-z-researchers/researchers-t-u/moritz-treeck/

The Mass Spectrometry platform houses state-of-the art mass spectrometry equipment such as LTQ-Orbitrap Velos and Q-Exactive technology. The platform is further supported by a team of expert mass spectrometrists with experience in quantitative proteomics, PTMs, targeted and computational analysis. http://www.crick.ac.uk/research/science-technology-platforms/mass-spectrometry/

The post-holder will be part of the Treeck lab but seconded for 25-40% of their time to the Mass Spectrometry platform to allow the development of skills in mass-spectrometry and apply these to the field of host-parasite interactions.

High motivation, creativity and ability to work independently and as part of a diverse group are esential for this position. The ideal candidate has a solid background in mass-spectrometry (ideally targeted proteomics) and wishes to investigate the signalling pathways used by pathogens to interact with their host cells.

Applicants will have recently completed their doctoral studies, are moving into a new research discipline and have previous experience of key transferable skills. A Postdoctoral Training Fellow will have opportunities to develop independent research project skills and collaborative links with colleagues within the Institute and elsewhere.

    To join us you’ll need:
    • A PhD (or be in the final stages of completion) in mass-spectrometry, molecular parasitology or biochemistry.
    • A strong background and publication record compatible with experience.
    • Willingness to work with human pathogens (Plasmodium falciparum and Toxoplasma parasites)
    • To be willing to travel between two laboratories initially before we move into the Crick.
