    Postdoctoral Training Fellow
    Mycobacterial Research
This is a full time, fixed position for three years under Crick Terms and Conditions of Employment. Salary is up to £33,500 per annum.

Cellular mechanisms of immunity to Mycobacterium tuberculosis
We are offering a 2-year Post-doctoral Fellowship, which is a training and development position for post-doctoral training fellows, in the laboratory of Maximiliano Gutierrez currently at the MRC National Institute of Medical Research. NIMR is one of the founding institutes of the new Francis Crick Institute. Opening in 2015 at St Pancras in central London, the Crick will have 1,250 researchers. Its goal will be to understand the basic biology underlying human health. It is supported by the Medical Research Council, Cancer Research UK, the Wellcome Trust, University College London, Imperial College London and King’s College London.

Applicants will have a high level of self-motivation and the ability to work in an international team are essential for this position. Substantial knowledge in image acquisition/processing/analysis (including FRAP/FRET) and cell culture techniques is an advantage. The project is embedded within a dedicated mycobacterial research group with interests in the interaction between M. tuberculosis and host cells. Opportunities for internal and external collaboration are available.

Our group is interested in the area of cellular microbiology of M. tuberculosis with a particular focus on the innate immune system and phagocytosis. In particular, we are interested in understanding how M. tuberculosis survive within host cells and the mechanisms that host cells use to eliminate intracellular M. tuberculosis. The proposed project aims to investigate the role of the host factor LRRK-2 in immunity to Mycobacterium tuberculosis

    To join us you’ll need:
    • A PhD degree (or be in the final stages of completion) in cell biology, biochemistry, microbiology or related area.
    • Independence, high motivation and good communication skills.
    • Proven experience with advance microbiological and cell biology techniques as well as in containment level 3 (Biosecurity level 3) with M. tuberculosis.

    Closing date: 27 April 2015

If you would like to apply for this role, please submit your CV and a covering letter, explaining your motivation and suitability for this role to Kylie Pang, HR Administrator, via [email protected]
